Anti Aging Skin Care - Can Brown Algae Really Make You Look Younger?

For years, fighting the visible signs of aging has meant using anti aging skin care that contains active ingredients such as alpha-hydroxy-acids, beta-hydroxy-acids and retinoids. These actives act on wrinkles primarily by eliminating dead skin cells and accelerating the cell renewal process with varying degrees of success. However, now a new and groundbreaking discovery has emerged in the form of a brown algae.

One of the clinical signs of aging is, among other things, the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles. Another sign of the aging process is the change that takes place in your skin structure and skin "texture" which becomes more noticeable as you age because the micro-contours of your skin cells is less regular.

Scientists involved in anti aging skin care have been searching for new and useful materials that can decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and assist in their long-term treatment, or both. There is also a need to find safe, natural and renewable materials to provide these benefits.

They found that extracts from marine plants proved extremely useful in anti aging skin care by providing improvement to the firmness and elasticity of your skin or softening the look of lines and wrinkles, particularly on your face and hands.

Extracts from marine plants also exhibit retinol-like properties, antioxidant properties, tensioning properties, cell renewal enhancing properties and hydrating properties.

Padina Pavonica, in particular - a fan shaped brown algae, is hand picked daily by scuba divers from the temperate waters of Malta and is a clinically proven collagen boosting seaweed.

The purified extract of this intelligent algae, not only helps the skin's metabolism, but it stimulates the synthesis of Glycosaminoglucan molecules (GAGs) at the cellular level. These hydrophilic (water attracting) molecules are responsible for the moisturizing, and thus for the firmness and elasticity, of your skin.

Your skin cells produce GAGs every day; however, aging slows down and decreases cellular regeneration, thereby speeding up the aging process.

A leading French doctor researched the benefits of Padina Pavonica for 10 years and it then took a further 3 years to develop as anti aging skin care.

The discovery of Padina Pavonica has changed the face of skincare forever. Independent clinical trials proved that it helps reduce wrinkles by up to 19% in just 15 days.

Dynamic anti aging skin care products that have been developed with the very latest scientific research and include the unique and groundbreaking natural ingredient Padina Pavonica, will increase skin elasticity, suppleness, firmness and hydration levels whilst offering additional support.

Not to be confused with anti aging skin care that contains collagen. Collagen molecules are too large to penetrate your skin's tough outer layers and any external application would be a pointless waste of money.

To summarize: The brown fan shaped marine algae, Padina Pavonica, is a clinically proven collagen boosting seaweed extract, which means it will activate the production of new collagen within your skin cells and anti aging skin care products containing this algae will boost your body's own collagen levels naturally so you can have younger, firmer looking skin.

Understanding and Caring for Your Dry Skin

Your skin is exposed to many external and internal factors, which are sometimes responsible for skin disorders. In most cases, dry skin is caused by weather changes. The skin is driest during the cold season due to low temperatures and humidity levels.

How to tell you have Dry Skin

Dry skin feels scaly, chapped and cracked. Sometimes it may also have sore, raw and squeezed. It is also tightly drawn over the bones, giving it a dull look, especially around the eyes, cheeks and corners of the mouth.

Dry skin has a low level of sebum and can be prone to sensitivity. It will often have a dried up look caused by its inability to retain moisture. It usually feels taut and uncomfortable after washing unless some type of moisture or body cream is applied.

Dryness is made worse by wind extremes of temperature and air-conditioning, all of which cause the skin to flake, chap and feel tight.

What causes Dry Skin?

Sebum, an oily substance released by the sebaceous glands, is responsible for keeping the skin moist, supple and waterproof. It forms a barrier on the surface, which helps in retaining water and keeping irritants out of the body. When your body becomes dry, these natural oils are not effectively produced, so the barrier cannot adequately perform its functions. Poor diet may also contribute to dryness. Eating foods rich in vitamin A and B is helpful as they contain nutrients that prevent your body from drying.

Exposure to sun, wind, cold, chemicals, or cosmetics, or excessive bathing with harsh soaps may lead to a dry shell. This is because such harsh elements disrupt the outer layer of the body and destroy the intercellular medium. Conditions such as dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, or seborrhea could also lead to dryness as can the use of drugs like diuretics, antispasmodics, and antihistamines.

Other catalysts include smoking, central heating, poor ventilation, dry, cold and windy weather and unprotected exposure to the sun. Loss of oestrogen during menopause also reduces the lipid content of skin, which eliminates its natural protection against dryness. However, this dryness could sometimes be a genetic condition.

Caring for Dry Skin

• Avoid using tap water when cleansing your body. The deposits are too drying on your skin. Instead, use a cleansing oil or cream and remove with a toner

• A dry body needs plenty of thorough but gentle cleansing, regular stimulation with massage and generous quantities of oil and moisture

• Do not wash body using soap and water because it not only removes dirt but also the natural oils protecting the body's shell.

• Follow a bath or a shower with a mild application of baby oil. Moisturize your body after cleansing to keep it from drying.

• Stay out of overheated rooms

• Use a creamy cleanser or baby oil at night

• Use a facial mask to clear up the surface and remove dull, dry surface cells once a week

• Increase your water intake if your skin is chapped or cracked

• Avoid smoking. Smoking has a harmful effect on the skin. Nicotine constricts the blood vessels that serve the various body parts, depriving it of oxygen and nutrients needed for good health

• Stay out of the sun as it causes dryness, wrinkles, rashes and blisters. Always apply a good sunscreen to all exposed areas of your body if you must be in the sun

• Eat a balanced diet that included vegetables, fruits, grains, seeds and nuts. Speaking of nuts, however, watch your intake on some foods as they may be harmful to your health if eaten in large amounts. Eat quality protein from vegetable sources. Garlic, onions, eggs, and asparagus are high in Sulphur, which helps to keep the skin smooth and youthful.

• In severe cases of dryness, consider seeing a dermatologist

Swimming and Skin Care - Repairing the Skin Barrier

Often pool swimmers complain of water related skin problems. Chlorine has a caustic effect, causing a disruption to the Stratum Corneum (the outermost layer of the epidermis) the skin's barrier. This skin barrier, was coined by Dr. Peter M. Elias of the University of California, San Francisco, an expert on skin barrier and epidermal biology.

The Stratum Corneum functions to form a barrier to protect underlying tissue from infection, dehydration, chemicals and mechanical stress. This skin level consists of dead cells (corneocytes) composed of 15-20 layers of flattened cells with no nuclei and cell organelles. These corneocytes are embedded in a lipid matrix composed of ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids.

This barrier is produced through a process called desquamation, cells shedding from the surface of the stratum corneum, and balancing proliferating keratinocytes (cells that produce keratin, a beneficial protein for the body). Then these cells migrate through the epidermis towards the surface in a journey that takes approximately fourteen days.

In other words, we are born with a healthy skin barrier that is capable of naturally keeping skin moist, and hydrated. Unfortunately, over time that layer of skin gets damaged from things like cold weather, excessive sun exposure, prolonged water submersion, wind conditions and other environmental factors. These causes break down the components of this layer of our skin and leave it without protection, susceptible to pruning, wrinkly skin, inflammation, bacteria, dryness, itchiness and allergens - damage.

Can Drinking Water Help to Hydrate Skin?

We are made of water (the average adult human body is 50-65% water). Copious quantities of water from our bodies is excreted daily. Therefore, the drinking of water is important because it replaces our supply. According to the FDA, we are to drink 8-10 glasses of water a day to maintain what we lose. The myth is that by doing so our skin is then adequately hydrated. For skin purposes, unfortunately, the consumption of water doesn't help all that much. In fact, the water we drink has a lot to do before it even gets to the skin. Think of the long and winding path water takes in our bodies and you'll note how many stops it makes to other organs, etc., before it even makes an appearance at the surface of the skin, for example:

1. Ridding the body of toxins,

2. Aiding with our digestive system,

3. Helping our organs function properly, etc.

Therefore, in theory, we need to apply water to the skin topically and somehow hold it there in order to keep skin moist, hydrated and wrinkle free. Moisturizers seek to accomplish this very task.

Moisturizers and the Skin Barrier

Despite what some advertisers tell us, many moisturizers available today do very little to keep moisture in the skin. That is because very few can penetrate the stratum corneum. With that truth, can the skin barrier even be repaired? The good news it that 'yes' it can. Because this layer of cells is made up of ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids, it stands to reason that if those elements are depleted causing damaged skin then adding them back to the skin will improve its texture. We accomplish this by putting the missing ingredients of ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids together in proper measurements (formulas) so that they work homogeneously to improve the skin. The mixture is key because just as we initially had them in our bodies, we must replace them similarly.

Which Moisturizers Even Work on the Dermis?

1. Shea Butter - contains fatty acids stearic and palmitic acid

2. Dermalogica Barrier Repair - shea butter, evening primrose oil

3. Zerafite - sold by dermatologists as a barrier repair face cream and body cream. http://lesliebaumannmd.com/dr-baumann-recommends-barrier-repair-moisturizers-heres/

4. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream 16 oz Daily Face and Body Moisturizer for Dry Skin - formulated technology allows ceramides to penetrate the skin

5. Water - douse your skin in fresh water before swimming

What About Working from the Inside Out?

1. Supplements - such as borage seed, fish oil or evening primrose oil

2. Hyaluronic acid - despite some claims, many dermatologists profess that it cannot enter the dermis when applied topically https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4110621/

3. Water - drinking 8-10 glasses a day does improve the skin's quality, but it takes time to reach the skin, as previously mentioned

Conclusion

Swimmers have special needs that pertain to moisturizing and protecting of our skin. Addressing these needs in logical, well-informed and consistent ways can allow swimmers to enjoy the water for a lifetime. The information above does not cover all that there is known on this subject. There are tons of more products and procedures that have been proven to work on a swimmer's skin. This post is an overview, generally giving insight on how swimmers should approach their skin care needs.

Try the moisturizers and supplements above after speaking to your dermatologists and doctors to see if they are right for you. If they are not, hopefully the information above will lead you to the correct combination of internal and external remedies designed for your needs.

As swimmers, we have to design and implement a routine to protect our skin. Doing nothing can only help to erode our skin barrier over time.

If this post has been helpful to you, please leave a comment below.

Thank you and Go Swim!

Select The Right Skin Care Treatment For Your Skin

The glow on your skin contributes to your overall appearance. Unfortunately, a stressful life, exposure to the sun and pollution - all take a toll on your skin and it begins to look dull, dry and lifeless. It is important to take care of your skin as a part of your daily beauty treatment routines.

Liposuction

Good and healthy skin is required for liposuction. After fat is removed from parts of the body, the skin should have enough elasticity to bounce back and fit perfectly over the newly contoured body. If the skin already has stretch marks or is too rough or dry, the final result of a liposuction may not be that pretty.

Lipofilling

In lipofilling, the fat from one area of the body is transferred to another area. For example the fat from your thighs can be injected to other parts where it is required. This cosmetic procedure is many times used to rejuvenate the face and enhance the lips or cheeks. The skin on your shoulders looks fresh and your face gets an overall healthy look.

Scar revision

This includes chemical reconstruction of skin scars. Derma-roller is used to create micro pricks on the skin and help in collagen induction. This greatly helps reduce acne scars and stretch marks, leaving the skin refreshed and rejuvenated. A cocktail of vitamins, lightening agents and some specialized mixtures are used for this purpose. Lasers can be used for scar revision too. Some of the tough scars may require surgery for treatment.

Skin pigmentation

Home care regimes are considered best for combating skin pigmentation. Prevention is generally considered as the best resort. Fruit peels and application of such natural products help lighten the skin by exfoliation and removal of dead cells. The tanned skin is removed and it gives your skin a natural glow. Other procedures that could be considered are - laser toning, skin polishing and oxy facial. These techniques have been specifically designed to enrich your skin and make it glow!

Acne

Acne is generally treated with topical applications and oral medications - if needed. Acne peels are a popular treatment. These include glycolic peels, azelaic and salicylic peels. Using a blue LED light is one of the safest ways to treat acne.

Anti aging

Aging invariably shows on the skin before any other parts of the body. Skin treatments for anti aging include fruit peels, surgical and non-surgical face lifts, skin tightening and laser toning.

Therapeutic facials

Scientifically designed skin facials are a great way to rejuvenate your skin. These facials give your skin a radiant glow. An oxy facial is used to exfoliate hydrate and give an instant glow to skins of all types. Oxy Jet peel is used to enrich the skin with micronutrients and help regaining its luster. A pumpkin facial is especially used to treat dry skin types to nourish, moisturize and give your skin an instant glow.

It's however advised to get an expert opinion and skin consultation so that you can select the right treatment for your skin.

72 Hours Urgent Skincare After Sunburn

If you find your skin becoming red or even blistering after long time outdoor activities in summer, you're badly sunburned. Studies show that after 3 hours of UV irradiation by the fierce sun, the surface skin of human will get sunburned, even the cells in the dermis will also get hurt and lose vitality. And eventually, skin aging will be accelerated. Therefore, as long as you are exposed to sunlight in outdoors for a long time, no matter your skin is peeled or not, complete skin repairing care in the following 72 hours prime time is essential. There would be 4 steps in total.

1. 6 hours after sunburn: soothing the skin. The first thing you should do is to cool the skin down after sunburn. The basic way is to use a large amount of spray toner. If your face is getting red and hot, you can also use some products such as aloe vera gel and chamomile water to sooth it.

Note: Do not use whitening products right after sunburn, because your skin is fragile and whitening products might cause skin allergies. Use moisturizer only, which won't increase the burden of the skin.

2. 12 hours after sunburn: replenishing moisture for your skin. When the condition of your skin is stable, it still need a lot of water to repair the damaged cells. At this time, you can use some essences or special sun repairing products. Essence enables your skin to absorb the moisture quickly and recover the healthy status of the dermis with its ingredients. So your skin won't be damaged after sunburn.

3. 48 hours after sunburn: whitening your skin. Many people are eager to use the whitening products after sunburn. Be patient, here comes this step. If you are not sunburned very badly, you can use the skin whitening products after two days. You can use vitamin C water of 5% concentration to stop the formation of melanin. At the same time, vitamin C can stimulate the growth of collagen and speed up the metabolism of damaged skin.

4. 72 hours after sunburn: deep repairing of skin. Ultraviolet rays from the sunlight will destroy the structure of collagen in our dermis, which will lead to skin aging. So we need a lot of vitamin E and protein to restore the elasticity and thickness of skin. Vitamin E is a powerful natural antioxidant that provides elements for collagen synthesis. Moreover, vitamin E is an effective element to avoid melanin.

Do Organic Skin Care Products Work?

There is a fine balance between finding organic skin care products that are healthy, and ones that actually get results.

I am a bit of a skin care addict and love trying new lines... especially ones that are organic and chemical free. Checking out new natural and organic skin care products is something I am passionate about.

Obviously using chemical free products on our skin is preferable to risking cancer later in life but at the same time, we all want to see results.

You've seen those amazing before and after photos where it looks like the wrinkles literally are erased? Well... let's use some common sense, shall we?

First of all, good skin is about more than just what products you use. It also comes from drinking enough water so that our skin cells are plump and hydrated, as well as from eating the right foods and reducing stress in our lives.

Ideally, you want your skin to be a pure and natural as possible, like a new born baby. So learn to read labels for both the good and the bad.

Finding a line that is healthy but also works for your skin type may take a little experimenting on your part.

I have used and compared many different natural skin care lines and also have worked for a few different skin care companies, so I might be able to help you narrow down your search for a good organic anti aging line that you will be happy with. Below are a few beneficial ingredients to look for in a a skin care product, as well as ingredients to avoid.

First, let's look at the good ingredients... the ones that make a difference:

Hyaluronic Acid

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Vitamin C Ester

Vitamin E

Kyojic Acid

DMAE

Aloe Vera

Alpha Hydroxy and Beta Hydroxy Acids

There are a ton of ingredients to avoid in skin care and beauty products but here are a few that are high on the 'do not use' list...

Perfumes

Dyes or Colouring Agents

Pthalates

Parabens

Sodium Laurel/Laureth Sulfate

Mineral Oil or anything related to petroleum (usually starts with 'petro')

DEA

Dioxins

Propolene Glycol

Polyethelene Glycol

Formeldahyde

Glycerin

Benzophenones

Toluene

Of course, extreme raw foodists like David Wolfe will recommend things like Olive Oil or Coconut Oil for your skin, but I personally find those a bit greasy for me, and I tend to break out in pimples when I put oil directly on my skin.

Other skin care experts, like Dr. Perricone, agree that by using the right products, you can literally reverse the aging process.

Remember though, great skin and anti aging is about more than organic skin care products. Lifestyle plays a BIG role.

The time in my life I got the most wrinkles was not from the products I used or my biological age. It was the time when stress was high... especially when it came to finances.

The restless nights worrying and the nagging fear at the back of my mind when the real estate market crashed, and we lost a lot, put more wrinkles on my face than anything. A few gray hairs popped up too!

When it comes to true anti aging... good, chemical free products, healthy food, lots of water, getting enough sleep, and a financially secure life all contribute to keep you looking and feeling young.

Important Considerations When Opting For Natural Skin Care Products

Proper skin care is not just about becoming beautiful. Also, it is not about preventing the signs of aging; rather, it is all about health and wellness.

If your skin is revitalized, smooth, and protected, certain health issues can also be avoided like sunburns and allergies. Also, you will feel energized and confident to go about your daily routine. And the best way of taking care of your skin is to opt for products containing natural ingredients. Indeed, health experts highly emphasized that natural skin care products will promote better skin health.

Things To Consider When Choosing Skin Care Products

Check out the manufacturer's profile - You must know all the significant info about the manufacturer behind the products. Look into the company's reputation and values. Bear in mind that a reputable skin care brand commits to the health and safety of its consumers. Also, it is likewise dedicated to achieving a better environment. Apart from that, the company must also be enlightened. They don't test on animals or even made use of animal-based ingredients.

Know its ingredients - The ingredients will actually tell you if the skin care product you want to invest in can do what is formulated to do. Does it really reduce wrinkles, treat acne or diminish dullness? Jojoba oil, aloe vera, and witch hazel are some of the important ingredients that can help achieve these results.

  • Aloe Vera - This is a natural remedy for burns. Also, it can boost natural cell renewal, as well as improve the texture and elasticity of your skin.

  • Jojoba Oil - This is an emollient used commonly in anti-aging products. It stimulates the production of collagen. Most importantly, it can defend your skin against the damaging UV rays of the sun.

  • Witch Hazel - This has powerful antioxidant properties, which can help boost the feel and look of your skin.

Today, there is a product containing the above-mentioned ingredients. It also contains hyaluronic acid and vitamins E & C. It is a colorless, odorless formulation, refreshing your skin and keeping it radiant throughout the day. It does not contain any harsh ingredients so it is believed to not cause any harmful side effects.

Since this is a natural, organic skin care product, rest assured that it does not contain a group of compounds identified in biopsy samples from breast tumors. So if you are a smart person, you won't endanger your skin by using products containing harmful chemicals. Rather, invest in products with natural ingredients.

10 Ways On How To Use Argan Oil In Your Daily Skin Care

100% Cold-pressed Argan oil produced from nuts of Argan tree growing in South-western Morocco is pumped by essential fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins (mainly Vitamin A and Vitamin E) and minerals that promote your overall health by moisturizing, softening as well as protecting your face and hair from sun damage. As it is free of harmful toxins and parabens it provides healing properties for a variety of topical uses.

1. Night-time Moisturizer

Argan oil absorbs quickly and does not leave the skin greasy. After cleansing your skin with an all-natural cleanser, pour one or two drops into your palm to warm. Apply in a circular motion to your face and neck. This oil is gentle and safe to use around your eyes.

2. Skin Toner

Either add 2-4 drops to 200ml of your favourite toner or make your own chemical-free toner at home! Just pour 1 cup of boiling water over a green tea bag and let soak for 7-10 minutes. Remove the tea bag and let the tea to cool down to a room temperature. Then add a drop or two of your favourite essential oils (orange, lemon or tea tree oil, etc.) and 2-4 drops of the oil and seal in a jar. You can use it daily every morning and every night after cleansing.

3. Exfoliant

To make your own exfoliant from Argan oil is easy. Just mix 1 tablespoon of brown sugar with a couple of drops of the oil in your hand. Rub this mixture into your face in a circular motion for up to four minutes, then rinse out with warm water and pat dry gently. You can use this exfoliator for more than just for your face (dry elbows, heels or just during an at-home pedicure, etc).

4. Acne Remedy

Just place a drop of the Argan oil into the palm of your hand and lightly dab a bit extra into problem areas.

5. Stretch Mark Remedy

As stretch mark prevention warm 2-3 drops of pure Argan oil in the palms of your hands and gently rub into your stomach, hips, thighs or any other problem areas. If you have some stretch marks already, massage the oil mixed with brown sugar into the affected areas before your next bath, then rinse well and apply the oil to the affected areas before dressing up.

6. Razor Bumps & Burn Treatment

Warm one or two drops of Argan oil in your hands and lightly massage into the affected area. Argan oil is an effective treatment soothing the skin after shaving for both, men after shaving their beards as for women after shaving their legs.

7. Whole-Body Moisturizer

Just add a couple of drops of Argan oil to your favourite carrier oil (coconut, olive oil, etc). In case of any dry patches on your heels, elbows or other areas, massage an extra drop into those areas for immediate relief.

8. Nail & Cuticle Treatment

Apply just a tiny bit of Argan oil onto each nail and rub into the nail bed and cuticle. Leave on until all nails have been treated, then wash and rinse thoroughly. The oil will keep your cuticles moisturized so you don't develop painful hangnails.

9. Foot Treatment

Just rub 2 drops into your feet, paying special attention to the problem areas. Depending on how dry your skin is you may need to apply a couple of more drops to fully moisturize the area. Cover your feet with a pair of soft, warm socks to give the oil a chance to absorb in. Leave the socks on for at least 20 minutes, ideally overnight. Then use a warm washcloth to remove the rest of the oil from the soles of your feet.

10. Lip Conditioner

Argan oil is also a wonderful lip treatment/balm replacement! Simply rub in 1-2 drops and wipe away any excess. It will relieve cracked lips and it will keep your lips soft, smooth and conditioned.

Get Back Your Flawless Skin With The Right Skin Care Regimen

Do you really miss those days when you had a flawless skin? Is your outer appearance affected by the variants like pollution, stress, and age? What if you get to know that your skin can still look flawless! Let's know how we can have the right skin care.

Cleansing your Skin is a Must!

It does not matter which skin care brand you are using; if you are not doing cleansing right, the results will not be seen. Generally, once you reach in your 20s you should start using cleanser according to your skin type. Remember once you grow, using a face wash is just not enough. Make cleansing as a part of your skin care routine. While face wash helps in removing dirt from the skin, cleanser cleans your skin from inside. Without proper cleansing, no skin care products will be absorbed by the skin.

Toning is Important too!

Most of us do not consider toning as important. After cleansing, they apply moisturizer which is not right. Once you are done with cleansing; now it is the time to apply a toner. At the time of cleansing, your pores are open and it is very important to close them. Toning helps to normalize the pore size and makes your skin ready for moisturizing. Use a toner of a reputed brand like Artistry which ensures to offer the premium and chemical free products. Take 3-4 drops on dry cotton and apply on your face with gentle hands.

Nourish Your Skin with Moisturizer!

Now your pores are back to their normal size and the skin is ready for moisturizing. Do not use moisturizer directly after cleansing. Choose a moisturizer according to your skin type and apply it as recommended. It is always better not to overuse the moisturizer. Applying it to the face without even washing may lead to the harmful outcome as the dirt exists on the face which will stick with moisturizer. So refrain from applying moisturizer anytime a day without washing face. If you need it, just clean your faces with water or wet wipes and then go for it.

Follow it Twice without Fail!

Usually, we start our day with lots of enthusiasm and take necessary skin care in the morning. By evening, we feel little careless and simply stick to washing face. For a flawless skin, it is necessary to follow all the three steps before going to bed. It only takes a couple of minutes but is helpful in longer run. Anyone can have a flawless and glowing skin with the right skin care regimen.

Add Special Skin Care if Required!

If you are above 30 years and have any skin care challenge, then you may add special skin care products as a part of your routine. Always consult a skin care expert before using these products. Trying anything or everything may lead to a dull and irritated skin. Trust only reputed brands and refrain from switching beauty products every now and then.

Get ready for a softer and younger looking skin and flaunt it!
